1-to-1 Befriender

Community Solutions North West

As a Befriender, you'll meet one on one with individuals in the community who are experiencing emotional challenges or social isolation. This may include those coping with bereavement, a recent health diagnosis, job loss or other major life changes. 

Your role is to provide emotional support, companionship and a listening ear, helping people regain confidence and rebuild connections during a vulnerable time in their lives.

Responsibilities

  • Offer short to medium term support through regular 1-to-1 meetings.
  • Build trusting relationships and provide non-judgemental emotional support.
  • Helps individuals feel heard, understood and less alone.
  • Encourage engagement with the community and support networks where appropriate.

What skills do I need?

  • Empathy, patience and excellent listening skills.
  • Reliable and respectful of confidentiality.
  • Ability to commit to regular weekly visits for a defined period.
  • No prior experience is required - full training is provided.
