Interpreter

Citizens Advice East Lancashire

Work with other volunteers and staff at the local Citizens Advice to interpret verbal information and advice to clients who are BSL users or people for whom English is not their first language.

What skills do I need?

  • Be fluent in speaking English and another language. Skills and training should be independently verified and/ or the volunteer should be a member of a professional body.
  • Be friendly and approachableĀ 
  • Be non-judgemental and respect views, values and cultures that are different to your own.
  • Have excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Have good IT skills.
  • Be able to understand information and explain it to others.
  • Be willing to learn about and follow Citizens Advice aims, principles and policies, including confidentiality and data protection.
  • Be willing to undertake training in your role.
